SC verdict on the Rafale defence deal: Who said what  1 Month ago

Source:   Times Of India

* Arun Jaitley, finance minister

Falsehood has a very short life. In this case, it was a few months. Falsehood lowers the credibility of its creator.

The Rafale deal protected both the security and commercial interests of India. Security interest because it increases the combat ability of India and commercial interest because the final price was significantly lower both for the aircraft and weaponised aircraft than what was negotiated under UPA in 2007 & 2012.

* Amit Shah, BJP president

Truth always triumphs! The Supreme Court's judgment on the Rafale deal exposes the campaign of misinformation spearheaded by Congress President for political gains. The court didn't find anything wrong with the process nor did it find any commercial favoritism in the deal.

The Supreme Court judgment on the deal has exposed the lies of Congress Party and its president Rahul Gandhi. This judgment has vindicated our stand. Now, Rahul Gandhi should apologize for defaming our country globally. He should answer the following question -

- What was the Congress' source of information on basis of which it levelled such grave allegations?
- Why was the deal not finalised till 2014, when the process was finalised in 2007 itself?
- Why did the Congress favour middleman and not relied on government-to-government deals?
- Why did the Congress comprised the national security?

* Randeep S Surjewala, Congress spokesperson

The verdict of the Supreme Court today is a validation of what the Congress party stated months again, that the SC is not the forum to decide such a sensitive defence contract. Article 136 and 32 are not the forum to decide the issue, the pricing, the process, the sovereign guarantee and the corruption in the Rafale contract. Only media is a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) are equipped to probe the entire corruption in the Rafale deal.

* Anil Ambani, Chairman Reliance Group

We welcome the SC verdict. It establishes the falsity of politically motivated allegations against the firm. The company is committed to India's national security, including implementing an offset deal with Dassault.

* Prashant Bhushan, petitioner

In our opinion the Supreme Court judgment is totally wrong, the campaign will certainly not drop and we will decide if we will file a review petition.

* Rajnath Singh, home minister

The matter was crystal clear from the beginning and we have been saying that the allegations levelled by Congress were baseless and to gain political mileage. The Congress president tried to mislead public for political benefit, and maligned Indian image globally, he should apologise to the house and to the people of the country. He thought 'Hum to doobe hain sanam tum ko bhi le doobenge' (Since we are drowning, we will drown you as well).

* Nitin Gadkari, Union minister

* Piyush Goyal, minister of railway

Satyamev Jayate: Once again, Rahul Gandhi's blatant lies stand exposed. The Supreme Court has dismissed any probe into the Rafale Deal. The entire nation has been lied to for political mileage.

* Smriti Irani, minister for textile

Satya pareshaan ho sakta hai, parajit nahi! In the dismissal of Rafale petitions, the Supreme Court not only upholds GOI stand but also exposes false narrative of Opposition. Rahul Gandhi and Co relentless campaign to malign the PM and mislead the nation just got delivered a death knell.

* Shahnawaz Hussain, BJP spokesperson

Every deal is not Bofors deal. It is the culture and tradition of Congress and its top leadership to mint money from such deals on the cost of the country's national security. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress should apologise to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making false allegations against him and questioning his credibility.

* Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of Indian National Congress in Lok Sabha

Our demand was for Joint Parliamentary Committee and it still stands, main issue is pricing which the SC said it did not want to comment as it is not in its jurisdiction. The home minister is speaking on an incomplete judgement given on a PIL filed in the Rafale deal.

* Anand Sharma, Congress

We demand a JPC probe and a forensic audit of the global tender of Rafale. There is no reason for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and this government to celebrate the SC order, which in itself is contradictory. Why should Rahul Gandhi apologise? For what? The SC has not gone into the details or the process of purchase of Rafale jets.

It's sad to see that this honourable Supreme Court did not look into these aspects, particularly the offset partner. We want to make it absolutely clear that the Prime Minister had made a precondition asking the French government that for the direct purchase of 36 Rafale Jet fighters at a cost which was three times than what was negotiated.

“We reject this SC order. We will not rest until the parliamentary committee takes charge of all the files, documents on Rafale.

* Jyotiraditya Scindia, Congress

The apex court's order is not a setback as the Rafale deal is still an issue in the people's court. And the party will continue to raise the issue in the Parliament.

* Omar Abdullah, former chief minister of J&K

Can't see how the Rafale Deal remains an election issue after this.
